APM Terminals Mumbai temporarily shuts down berth
APM Terminals Mumbai has temporarily closed Berth 1 to continue its Fit for Future project, which includes infrastructure upgrades and a 10% increase in volume capacity to 2.8 million TEU. The project is expected to improve efficiency and allow the terminal to accommodate larger vessels. The demolition of existing infrastructure and the arrival of new cranes are expected to take six months, with completion in early September. With the arrival of 23 container-outreach cranes, the terminal will be able to handle the largest vessels that call Nhava Sheva’s Jawaharlal Nehru port. In April 2022, APMT Mumbai launched a new rail service to reposition empty containers and avoid congestion.
