MSC ISTANBUL cargo vessel refloated after running aground in Suez Canal
After running aground in the Suez Canal for two hours, the cargo ship MSC ISTANBUL was successfully refueled. Four tugboats from the Suez Canal Authority were dispatched to rescue the vessel, which had a bollard pull capacity of 95 tonnes. The accident had no effect on the canal’s navigation movement. This is not the first such incident in the canal, with the EVER GIVEN vessel grounding in March 2021, resulting in a six-day blockage and subsequent compensation lawsuits.
