We have a dedicated team with tracking visibility tools that tell us about the port congestion well in advance and therefore we plan our trucking arrangements accordingly
Its always better to request for extended free time but in advance
I make sure that a driver has been assigned for pickup and is available to pick up the cargo during the allotted free time, I also arrange for a truck backup plan in place in case of heavy port congestion
I too plan ahead of time for pre-clearance and delivery instructions
For reducing truck detention, we normally appoint service providers who are flexible with the committed time and can extend hours without charging and where we can control truck arrival times. We have deployed ground labor to improve visibility and awareness of dwell at port.
We have negotiated more free days, invested in tools for increasing visibility
