Parcel Volumes to Stay 20% Above Pre-Pandemic Levels This Year
Lightweight parcel volumes in the United States have dropped significantly since the pandemic ended, but they will still be 20% higher than pre-pandemic levels this year, according to a report released Friday by DHL eCommerce Solutions.
The 2023 “E-Tailers Almanac” identified three major trends. Among them is that price-conscious customers will prioritize shipping costs over speed when selecting a provider. Another factor is the growing importance of real-time visibility, shipment tracking, and exception management for merchants. According to the report, this will result in increased spending by merchants on data analytics solutions.
A third trend is a return to demand regionalization. As supply chain bottlenecks ease and market conditions stabilize, businesses will return to strategies that bring them closer to their end markets.
