Rijeka Gateway of APM Terminals in Croatia will use remote-controlled, electric container handling equipment
APM Terminals will use remote-controlled, electric container handling equipment to operate the Rijeka Gateway terminal in Croatia. The terminal will have four Ship-to-Shore cranes, 15 Rubber-Tyred-Gantry cranes, two Rail-Mounted-Gantry cranes, and 30 Terminal Tractors, all of which will be controlled from a central room using large screens and instrument panels. The new equipment is expected to increase safety while decreasing human error. This automation shift is part of APM Terminals’ Terminal of the Future concept and decarbonization roadmap. To meet decarbonization targets and maximize operational efficiency, many industry players are increasingly investing in electric or hybrid equipment.
