The Port of Long Beach and ITS have completed a $55 million improvement project that will increase efficiency

The Port of Long Beach and International Transportation Service (ITS) have completed a $55 million improvement project that extended Berth G236 by 75 meters and built new rock dikes, allowing the ITS terminal to accept larger container ships and improve efficiency. According to ITS CEO Kim Holtermand, the new berthing capability will accommodate ships carrying up to 16,000 TEUs. The project included extensive dredging, the removal of old piers and concrete piles, and the installation of new concrete piles. The project also increased the terminal’s storage capacity and outfitted the wharf with shore power. Five new ship-to-shore cranes and five rubber-tired gantry cranes will also be delivered to Pier G Wharf in the coming months.
