Messina Line, established in 1921, is the maritime shipping division of Ignazio Messina & C., one of Italy's most historical shipping lines, headquartered in Genoa, Italy. The company operates a fleet of 21 ships, both owned and chartered, with a total capacity of 41,000 TEU containers.
Messina Line's fleet primarily consists of ConRO vessels, capable of carrying containers on the weather deck and roll-on/roll-off cargo under deck, loaded via quarter stern ramps. This versatile fleet enables the company to handle a diverse range of cargo, including automobiles, trucks, trailers, heavy construction machinery, and other types of static and rolling freight.
The company offers regular liner services connecting the Mediterranean to Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent, reaching more than 50 ports and supplying over 40 different countries. Additionally, Messina Line owns a container terminal inside the port of Genoa, Italy, facilitating efficient cargo handling and distribution.
In February 2017, the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) purchased a 49% stake in Ignazio Messina & C., becoming the minority owner. Since 2018, cooperative activities between the two companies have commenced, including vessel chartering, enhancing service coverage and operational efficiency.
